Stefanie’s story

Receiving the prestige ERA Young Investigator Award has had an important impact on both my scientific career and networking activities. The recognition from the ERA created a lot of visibility and allowed me to join the ERA Immunonephrology Working Group (IWG) where we actively foster education, communication, research interests and promote scientific networking. I am very honoured to be part of this amazing, collaborative and proactive group.

As scientist with a translational research focus on CKD-related hyperuricemia and associated complications, my upcoming research projects lie in identifying the pathomechanisms that contribute to the secondary immunodeficiency in CKD patients. Expanding our understanding on this topic and sharing such findings with the nephrology community are my research goals. In addition, some upcoming and future projects that also link education and research include publishing articles and holding e-seminars with the ERA IWG, giving talks at congresses for example as ERA ambassador at the 44th APCN & KSN annual meeting 2024, organizing the next meeting “Die Junge Niere” for young medical students in Munich (28.-29. June 2024) supported by the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN), and continuing to serve as Associate Editor for the ERA journal NDT.
