As a nephrologist and researcher, contributing to the advancement of nephrology through peer review is both a privilege and a responsibility. My motivation to serve as a reviewer for CKJ stems from a desire to ensure that high-quality, rigorously validated research reaches the nephrology community. I am driven by the opportunity to help shape the dialogue in the field by promoting innovation, critical thinking, and clinical relevance. Reviewing also allows me to stay updated on the latest advancements and research trends, which further fuels my own academic curiosity and professional development.

When reviewing a paper, I prioritize several key aspects. First and foremost is the scientific rigor of the study design and methodology. A well-conceived hypothesis, sound statistical analysis, and reproducibility are crucial. I also assess the clarity and coherence of the manuscript; the results should be presented transparently, and the discussion should offer thoughtful insights rather than overstated conclusions. Additionally, the relevance and originality of the study within the broader context of nephrology are important factors I consider. Ethical considerations and patient safety, especially in clinical studies, are also central to my evaluation.

As a reviewer, I see myself as a gatekeeper of scientific integrity and excellence. My role is to offer constructive feedback that not only identifies weaknesses but also provides suggestions for improvement. By doing so, I can help authors refine their work, making it more robust and impactful. Moreover, as a reviewer, I contribute to maintaining the standards of nephrology literature, ensuring that the published research is both credible and clinically applicable. One of the most rewarding experiences in reviewing came from a paper that initially had significant methodological flaws. Despite these, the underlying research question was highly relevant. Instead of recommending outright rejection, I provided detailed feedback on how the authors could address the limitations and refine their analysis. They responded positively, revised the manuscript, and the paper was eventually published, contributing meaningfully to the field. This experience taught me the importance of constructive criticism and the impact it can have on improving scientific work. Conversely, I’ve also encountered manuscripts where the authors were less receptive to feedback, which underscored the necessity of maintaining professionalism and impartiality, regardless of the response.
