Guobin’s story

It is an invaluable experience for me to be involved in the ERA fellowship programme. The programme is already well-established and nicely-organized. It attracts me for the chosen institution are highly respect and the topics of the project is important in the field of Nephrology.

It is a good resource for young Nephrologists and those who just graduate as a PhD to have in-depth research experience. It expans my research horizon and boarden my research skills. During my ERA fellowship, I have a chance to investigate how diet adherence and healthy lifestyle have impact on outcomes in patients receiving hemodialysis using the data from DIET-HD study, a multicenter, multinational, prospective, cohort study that was primarily designed to evaluate the association between diet and adverse outcomes in adults treated with long-term
hemodialysis. It provides me with the experience to analyze the international data and have a sense of how a multi-center study works

As a physician in the field of Nephrology, I treasure the fellowship experience. It is still restrictive to take care of patients with kidney disease through daily clinical practice for the limited time by one person. If you want to help more patients, you have to do research, generate and disseminate the scientific knowledge to those who can help patients with kidney disease. The fellowship provides me with this opportunity through research. You can experience that the voice of your team can be heard and your effort can be echoed from international audience when your research is published or advocated in the international conference. This encourage me to devote myself in advancing the filed of Nephrology in the future combining research and clinical practice.

I appreciate the fellowship programme and my gratitude towards my supervisor/tutors Professor Juan Jesus Carrero and Dr. Valeria Saglimbene，Principal Investigators Professor Giovanni F.M. Strippoli and participants of DIET-HD study as well as our co-authors. The work during my fellowship enables me to receive serveral awards and opportunity including Lifestyle4Health Best Paper Award 2022, by Karolinska Institutet Lifestyle4Health Network, Outstanding Scientific Presentation, Best Abstract by young authors, free communication, focused oral and travel grant by European Renal Association annual conference. With the works during the fellowship programme, I get in touch with those with common research interest and make success in research grant application. I can continue to work in the field of interaction between infection and kidney disease and how diet, lifestyle modification and some types of herbal medicine can play.
