ERA Curatorium - ERAC

The Innovation in Nephrology in the Age of Digital Revolution Award is an annual prize awarded by the ERA Curatorium dedicated to young nephrologists and non-nephrologists researchers who have developed new ideas, projects, technologies, and services that address specific challenges in the field of nephrology and kidney disease. Let us celebrate the next generation of leaders who are shaping the future of nephrology through their creativity and dedication.

The Awards are assigned in two categories:
1. Young Nephrologist ERA Curatorium Award for Innovation in Nephrology
2. Young Scientist ERA Curatorium Award for Innovation in Nephrology

Euro: 10.000,00€ each in the respective categories.

ERAC is supporting this initiative with fellowships (for nephrologists), consisting in a two-year part-time distance and in person learning course that provides in-depth training in the principles and practice of conducting large-scale, randomised clinical trials. For the 2024–2026 academic term, ERAC supported three fellowships and will continue this support with three more fellowships for the 2025–2027 term.

This platform is a digital hub for nephrology education and professional development, featuring live e-seminars, on-demand e-courses, Neph Manual and last Congress webcast. From live e-seminars in 7 languages to on-demand resources, such as courses, Neph-Manual and last Congress webcasts.

The aim of this ERA publication is to promote medical expertise by presenting case examples alongside discussions of pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic principles. Structured in chapters covering kidney disease pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment, the manual includes clear explanations, graphics, and end-of-chapter self-assessment questions. Exclusively for ERA members, it is designed to aid young nephrologists in their training and knowledge expansion. In 2023, ERAC supported the publication of the first edition of the Neph-Manual and will continue this support for the updated version of the Manual in 2025.

ESPN is the European Society of Paediatric Nephrology. Together with ERA/Registry they are responsible for the Renal Registry which includes paediatric patients on kidney replacement therapy. It aim is to improve in the long-term the health outcomes of paediatric patients with end-stage kidney disease during childhood and adult life.

ERAC immediately reacted to the earthquake that struck Türkiye on 6th February 2023. Among those affected were dialysis patients who rely on regular treatment. Nearly 1,000 to 8,000 patients in hard-hit provinces were transferred to surrounding provinces. The earthquake had devastating effects in several ways affecting patients under dialysis treatment.

Patients on Automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) have lately had an incredibly difficult time given the regular power shortages in many parts of Ukraine. The only way to continue with APD in situations with a limited availability of electricity is to have a powerful battery at your disposal.
The Renal Disaster Relief Task Force (RDRTF) has been able to help APD patients. There are still a hundred batteries needed.
